jobsDB speaks to Stella Wong from Singapore Sports Council.
STELLA WONG – Senior Manager, Sales and Sponsorship (Sports Marketing Group)
I drive partnerships and sponsorships to support revenue generation for sports. The key duties are to collaborate with all stakeholders and provide a framework for regular engagement, account servicing and to ensure quality delivery and maintenance of sponsorship programmes.
What inspired you to join SSC?
The job scope along with the increasing support by the Government for sports has fuelled my desire to be part of the sports scene. The job is a perfect fit for me as I am a people-person who loves to share my personal knowledge and experiences.
What duties and responsibilities does your job involve?
I am the Commercial Director of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008-2009 and Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2010.
My main duties involve identifying the appropriate sponsors and partners to contribute to the event by defraying the cost. I also lead a team to deliver contractual entitlements to sponsors and conceptualise value added platforms to increase sponsors’ advertising mileage.
What is it like to work at SSC?
Working in SSC is like being part of a big family. We are a closely knit team that believes in helping one another. My supervisor is open and approachable and is always willing to give advice and support. This is important as it spurs me to take on more challenges at work.
How has SSC helped you to grow in your career?
I have honed my communication skill enabling me to interact with people at varying levels both internally and externally. I have picked up leadership skills while helming the sponsorship and broadcast team to achieve KPIs and targets. I am also able to approach problems with creative solutions and to think “out of the box” to help sponsors maximise their exposure at events or other SSC platforms.
What are your future goals that you want to achieve at SSC?
With the Government’s increased support for sports, I hope for an opportunity to contribute more, in terms of shaping the sporting events by involving more partners in marketing events which are funded and supported by SSC.
