MondayitisPronounced Mon – dai – eye – tis
Mondayitis is a name given to describe fatigue, dreadfulness and general unhappiness commonly experienced by workers on Monday mornings. Also known as Blue Monday, the term ‘Mondayitis’ was popularised by online job portal, jobsDB, as part of their “Beat Mondayitis” publicity campaign that was launched on 30 September 2013.
Causes of MondayitisThe cause of Mondayitis is brought about by the beginning of the work week where most workers are said to feel anxious, tired, and moody according to a jobsDB survey on work productivity in Singapore.
Effects of Mondayitis
The Employee Workday Profile survey canvassed the opinions of 379 employers and more than 4,300 job seekers in Singapore and uncovered the following findings:
• 44% of workers say they are least productive on Mondays
• 70% of employers in Singapore report that they receive more Medical Certificates (MCs) on a Monday than any other day of the week
• 72% say employees are most commonly late for work on Monday mornings
• Mondayitis, on average, lasts approximately for 4.5hours starting from 7am
The Cure: Beat Mondayitis!“Beat Mondayitis” is a publicity campaign executed by jobsDB comprising a series of activations aimed at curing Mondayitis, typically executed on Monday mornings. The first activation on Monday, 7 October 2013 saw a group of cheerleaders uplifiting spirits and handing out 888 ice-cream vouchers to office workers at Singapore’s Central Business District.
The Beat Mondayitis Cheerleading SquadjobsDB’s Beat Mondayitis cheerleading squad came out in full force near Raffles Place MRT on the morning of 7 Oct 2013. Their high-energy cheering and gravity-defying mid-air flips helped to chase the Monday blues away and brought an otherwise dull Monday morning to life. Several passers-by took photos and videos of this special event that spanned over an hour from 8 to 9am.
Exclusive Beat Mondayitis flyers that offer FREE Ben & Jerry’s ice cream with every Job Alert sign up were also distributed on location to sweeten the day and keep the dreaded Mondayitis at bay. The first 888 job seekers who sign up for Job Alerts here from 7th October to 31st October 2013 (or until the registration of the 888th subscriber) will receive their ice cream voucher in the mail.
The Employee Workday Profile Survey
To help everyday workers find a cure for Mondayitis, jobsDB created the Employee Workday Profile Survey in early September that sought to gain insight on the sentiment of Singaporean employees with regard to their workdays.See the results of the Employee Workday Profile Survey below.
