A Postdoctoral fellow position is now open in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of National University of Singapore. The candidate will join a large research group working on a unique project “Ecologically engineering Singapore’s seawalls to enhance biodiversity” hosted at the National University of Singapore. This 4.5-year interdisciplinary research project comprises multiple sub-projects represented by teams with extensive expertise in intertidal and coral biology, materials science and coastal engineering. The candidate will join the sub-project “hydrodynamics and eco-mechanics” supervised by Prof. Philip Liu and Dr. Jing Yuan. He/she will conduct numerical and laboratory simulations of wave-seawall interactions, which aims at (1) understanding the hydrodynamic effects of some existing seawall enhancements, e.g. surface roughness element, and (2) proposing new seawall designs or enhancements to create favourable local flow environment for enhancing local biodiversity.
This is a two-year position with the possibility of extending for another 2 years. The salary and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience, and are internationally competitive.
- PhD degree in coastal engineering, fluid mechanics or closely related fields
- Previous experience (numerical and/or experimental) in wave-structure or wave-seawall interactions is desirable.
- Capacity to work in a diverse group of scientists
