You deserve to feel good about an interview request.
If you have been offered an interview, it means that the potential employer
or human resource manager has received and read (if even at a cursory
glance) your cover letter or résum? or heard a recommendation about you
from someone they trust. They have determined that the information received
was adequate enough to warrant an interview.
Furthermore, it is likely that you have spoken with this decision-maker
(when they set up the interview appointment) further assuring them that
meeting with you is worth their time. Since few people are willing to
waste their time interviewing unqualified candidates, you can congratulate
yourself on being considered potentially qualified for the position you
are currently targeting. That is something to feel good about.
Now, before the actual date of the interview, is the time to prepare.
Showing up and being eager is simply not enough. There is an awful lot
of competition out there, and chances are great that you will not be the
only potentially qualified individual this decision maker will be meeting,
interviewing and considering. Therefore, we offer you several preparatory
steps you can take before the interview that will aid your chances for
a successful outcome.
