Last week, we looked at the building blocks of personality tests, Trait Theory (click here to read the article). This week, we take a close look at the behavioural characteristics of people who score high in the various traits.
The Five Dimensions
In today's fast paced economy, HR professionals are finding it a constant challenge to hire the right people. As a result, they are adopting new technologies and methods to select and recruit people who are not only qualified for the job but who will fit in the organisation and help it grow. One of these methods is personality assessment.

What people do (their behaviour) is a function of who they are (their personality). To predict future behaviour, it is necessary to accurately assess an individual's personality. Assessing personality patterns enables employers to predict future job successes.

As discussed in our last article, personality is made up of traits, in this article, Richard I. Lanyon, the founder of the Drake P3 System and a professor from Arizona State University has thoroughly researched personality assessment and has identified and named 4 major traits that make up an individual's personality.

The four major traits are dominance, extroversion, patience and conformity. When an individual's personality is measured, they will typically score high on a trait that they are most similar to, thus identifying their high trait. Individuals who score lowest on a particular trait would have identified their low trait.

An individuals' High Trait accounts for 50-70% of his or her observable behaviour at work. That same person's Low Trait accounts for another 20-30% of his or her observable work behaviours.

Get a gauge on what your personality is, what behaviours you emit and what motivates and de-motivates you in the work environment. This week we begin the Dominance trait, are you a dominant person? To find out, read on.
