Ms Tang Mun Har is the founder and director of Resource Consulting Pte. Ltd. Mun Har has more than 14 years of corporate HR and consulting experience before deciding to follow her entrepreneurial instincts to set up Resource Consulting.
Mun Har, what inspired you to establish your own HR recruitment firm?
I wanted to set up a holistic recruitment service that will support the needs of our clients and candidates. At university, I studied social work, and this has taught me the importance of seeing the value and potential in everyone and the art of listening to people’s needs and these have become our operating principles in Resource Consulting.
What are the core strengths of Resource Consulting?
Here at Resource Consulting, we have an experienced team of professionals who understand our clients’ requirements, and have a keen awareness of each client’s corporate culture, in order to help them select the best candidates for the job. We also place a high emphasis on customer service and believe in taking care of our candidates all the way through their job search.
What are your thoughts on the employment sector in the current economic climate?
The global financial meltdown has shed light on possible areas for improvement in the business processes and it is timely for company leaders and HR managers in particular, to reflect on industry best practices and examine how they can better manage their human capital.
In times like these, I believe that it is always better for companies to retain their staff, rather than retrench, as it affects the morale of existing employees too. In fact, longer term damage can sometimes be caused from firing staff to cut costs.
On another note, jobseekers are now more realistic in their wage expectations, particularly fresh graduates. We always advise our job candidates to do an honest assessment of their strengths and weaknesses and not just look at what their potential employers can offer them but what they can offer to their potential employers. In essence, we help candidates to discover more about themselves, and make them more ‘marketable’.
What are your dreams for the future?
I’m looking forward to building good long term relationships with our clients and candidates and provide them with more value-added services, so that they will view us as partners, rather than just a ‘transactional’ relationship.
