KIDS WORLD MEDIA PTE LTD

Jasmine J. Goh is the Founder and Sales and Marketing Director of Kids World Media Pte Ltd, which publishes WaWa in Kids World magazine and Parents World magazine.

She shares more about how Kids World Media Pte Ltd is helping to enrich the lives of Singaporean children and their parents.

Jasmine, what inspired you to set up your own publishing firm - Kids World Media Pte Ltd?

I was previously working in the Media and Advertising industry, and I’ve always had the passion to work with kids, and to create something for kids to enjoy. So, one day I decided to pursue my dreams and set up Kids World Media Pte Ltd. In October 2004, the first issue of WaWa in Kids World was launched.

What is WaWa in Kids World magazine and Parents
World magazine about?

  WaWa in Kids World

(www.wawa.com.sg) is an all-in-one magazine for children who want it all: exciting stories of various genres, thrilling comics, interesting and entertaining general knowledge articles, fun trivia, cool quizzes and contests and so on. Our readers are between 6 to 12 years old, and the magazine is sold through direct subscription to many primary schools in Singapore.

WaWa means ‘doll’ in Mandarin, and it’s also the name of our mascot, which is a rabbit. I thought of the word ‘WaWa’ as it’s a two syllable word that’s catchy and easy to remember. I also wanted the magazine to be an entertaining and informative companion for kids that’s easy to read, interesting, lively and colourful.

Parents World
(www.parentsworld.com.sg) the magazine aims to promote family cohesion, and to build a platform for parents to share ideas on parenting topics. It’s not just a parenting magazine but also a bridge to bond parents together.

The magazine covers not only parenting tips, but issues concerning education, family values, and health, beauty and lifestyle trends.

Parents World initially started off as a free quarterly supplement with WaWa in Kids World, but it became so popular with our readers that we’ve decided to make it available as a bi-monthly issue on its own.

As a Sales and Marketing Director, what’s your day like?

My mornings usually begin with meeting up with our clients to discuss their advertising plans, or just simply paying them a visit to say hello, as it’s important to maintain good client relations.

Later in the afternoon, I’ll be back in the office to catch up with our Editorial team of writers and graphic designers to plan the content and layout of our upcoming issue of WaWa in Kids World and Parents World.

I’ll usually finish the day by taking care of administration matters and also following up on sales leads
.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy being able to plan for road shows and outdoor events for our readers to meet up, have lots of fun and connect with one another. In fact, an upcoming event that we are organizing for Parents World magazine in June is the ‘Amazing Family Race’.

It will be an outdoor event that promotes family bonding, is low cost and enable all our readers and their families to have fun together.

What is your view on the publishing industry in Singapore?

I think that for Kids World Media Pte Ltd, we are in a relatively niche market as our magazines cater to a particular segment of readers – namely children and their parents. However, having said that, as long as we are passionate about providing our readers with enriching magazine content and continue to innovate and create a loyal readership, we will definitely enjoy success. Furthermore, we are also tapping into the power of the Internet to help us connect with our readers and also create new business opportunities.

What are your dreams for the future?

I aim to develop and grow the readership of our two magazines, and also to continue providing our readers with interesting and engaging articles that will enrich their lives.
