Suhaimie Sukiman, Operations Manager & Trainer, Cuppa Choice, talks about his passion for coffee and how he’s helping to boost the Barista profession in Singapore.

Suhaimie, what does Cuppa Choice do?

We are a Singaporean boutique and gourmet coffee brand, under a parent company that specializes in –

	Coffee roasting
	Café Setup consultation
	Barista training
	Espresso and roasting machine sales
	Coffee accessories
	Flavoured syrups and teas

We also have our very own Cuppa Choice Café at 3 Temple Street in Chinatown, Singapore. We have a large drinks menu with more than 84 different coffee/tea recipes and it’s open to everyone to drop by for a cuppa, grab a delicious sandwich, savour some yummy Italian gelato, or to simply have a chat about coffee with our friendly baristas!

What led you to join Cuppa Choice as an Operations Manager?

I guess you can say that coffee and customer service is my passion and in my blood! I was also looking for new challenges within Singapore coffee industry. Prior to joining Cuppa Choice, I was working as a Barista at Starbucks for nine good years. I was promoted to shift manager and was even appointed a Starbucks coffee ambassador in early 2007.

I joined Cuppa Choice in 2007 as a Business Development Executive and Barista Trainer before becoming an Operations Manager early this year.


	Do you enjoy your job as an Operations Manager? Definitely! Firstly because I have a very supportive management that believes in my goals and visions for the company and also because I have a great team of staff who are all great team players and passionate about Cuppa Choice and coffee appreciation!
Here at Cuppa Choice, we’ve also launched an “I’m a Barista in Singapore” association to give Singaporean baristas a strong sense of community and pride, and to help everyone share their barista and coffee knowledge so as to further boost the barista profession in Singapore - The ultimate goal is to have world-class coffee served everywhere in Singapore!

In your opinion, what 3 qualities does a good barista have?
