Conscientiousness can be viewed as the will to achieve.
It refers to the self-control involved in the active process of planning,
organising and carrying out tasks. Conscientious individuals are purposeful
and determined. You know they are doing it right, and on time.
On the positive side, Conscientiousness is associated
with academic and occupational success, but it can lead to annoying
fastidiousness, compulsive neatness, or workaholic behaviour. Conscientiousness
is one aspect of what was once called character; such persons are scrupulous,
punctual and reliable.
Persons with low conscientiousness are more "laid
back" and relaxed about their goals; they are easy-going and casual
in their approach to life.
