World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
World Vision serves close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world. World Vision serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.
Of the more than 30,000 staff employed by World Vision, 97 percent work in their home countries or regions. Familiar with the culture and language, they bring to World Vision a deeply personal understanding of how best to assist local children and families.
The excellence of World Vision’s work has earned the trust of more than 3 million donors, supporters, and volunteers; more than half a million child sponsors; thousands of churches; hundreds of corporations; and government agencies in the United States and around the world.

Jenny Teo
Communications Manager
at World Vision Singapore
What is your job like?
I oversee and manage the marketing & communications team at World Vision Singapore. Together, we are responsible for conceptualising and executing marketing and communications initiatives across multi-platforms, channels and media with the goals of creating brand awareness, increasing sponsor-donor acquisition, advocacy, and donor transformation. |
 |
What do you enjoy about your job?
Knowing that I'm in a place where I can actually help make a difference in the lives of needy children and their families around the world. And helping to provide the channels of transformation, not only for the lives of our beneficiaries, but for those of our supporters and donors as well.
I also enjoy working with my team and colleagues - everyone shares the same passion and heart for serving the poor so it is a joy to work alongside each other as we help one another overcome the daily challenges of meeting and achieving our goals.
What are some highlights/achievements in your job?
There are many highlights. Some of the more memorable ones were meeting those whom we seek to serve in person - like when I helped lead a child sponsors' visit to Phu Cu, Vietnam, in January 2008 and we had the chance to interact with the children and communities who are supported by World Vision Singapore. Or when we met two former street children and heard their real-life testimonies of how their lives have been transformed for the better through the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation in Vietnam, which World Vision Singapore also supports.
Also, the ongoing support by our donors helps validate the work we do and reinforces my faith in the goodness and kindness of humanity.
Why is World Vision a great place to work?
This is an organisation that does a lot of good things. World Vision has served more than 100 million people in almost 100 countries. 3.6 million children are benefiting from child sponsorship while almost 1 million orphans and vulnerable children have received care and support.
World Vision responds to disasters and humanitarian emergencies around the globe while advocating basic rights for those who can't speak for themselves - mainly, children who are living in impoverished conditions.
The staff who work in World Vision make it a great place to work. Within the World Vision International partnership exists a general camaraderie that is fostered by our common vision - that is to provide every child with the fullness of life.
What are your future career goals that you would like to achieve?
To continue to raise awareness for the humanitarian issues we are trying to address and to help more needy children and their communities break from the cycle of poverty and achieve a better quality of life.

Joo Chong Lim
HR/OD Director at World Vision Cambodia
What is your job at World Vision like?
I am the Human Resource and Organization Development Director for World Vision Cambodia. I have two primary roles. One is to lead the Human Resource team in ensuring that we deliver excellent services in recruiting, integrating, developing and retaining staff.
|
In this role, I have to ensure that we have good business processes in all our Human Resource functions to support excellent front line owned HR Management practices that will strive towards a positive workplace, continuously grow HR competencies to enhanced better services and transition my team from administrative Human Resource practitioners to business partners for our operations.
The other major role is for me to partner the senior leadership team in strengthening the organization through targeted organization development initiatives such as Staff Christian Commitment, culture, talent pool development, etc.
I am also a part of the leadership team that works together to drive the organization towards its strategic aspirations.
What do you enjoy about your job?
The joy of this role is the significance of being given the opportunity to serve my Lord Jesus Christ, who has shaped and develop me over the many years, for this role. It's a feeling that I am answering His call. I liken this to what I termed a "sweet spot" moment. The right place, the right time and right opportunity. I am also excited that I am can play a small part in the rebuilding of a nation. Isn't that fantastic?
What are some highlights/achievements in your job?
Firstly I credit my National Director, Esther Halim, and the leadership team for the trust and confidence they have extended to me. I feel very warm, welcomed and good. They have been very supportive to both me and my wife, who is very supportive of me taking this assignment.
That is important as I transition into a new place (my first international assignment); new industry (from corporate to non-profit humanitarian) and a new culture (first cross cultural). In the process, new relationships have been established.
Secondly I have been on this job for a good twelve months, and that I believe, is an achievement for me. It is about the ability to quickly grasp the fundamentals and transition into the organization, the business, as well as the culture and then directly contribute effectively as a senior leader for the organization in implementing some changes.
Thirdly, the challenge of being entrusted with the responsibility to enhance, nurture, and help the staff gain a greater commitment to the vision and mission of the organization, and the feeling of being called rather being employed.
If I may add, it is about personal growth and maturity and I have discovered in a metaphorical sense, a "new world" that I didn't know existed before.
Why is World Vision a great place to work?
I also like the organisation’s modus operandi (mode of operations) as it gives guidance and yet there is freedom to contextualize and make decisions at a local country level - that is a good balance.
Lastly, having been on visits in the field and seeing the conditions and sacrifices our staff make, the conditions of the community, and the impact of what we do, have been an inspiration for me.
What are your future careers goals?
I look upon my goals as "how many lives have I personally touched and impacted?" and whether I have helped people to grow professionally and personally as well, in their desire to find spiritual meaning.
In short, hopefully I help my fellow "family members" in the World Vision family achieve fullness of life as we prayerfully humble ourselves and commit our will to bring fullness of life to every child. |
