jobsDB speaks to Mohd Mahmood Bin Amir, Skills Training Officer, Quality Assurance Department to find out more about what it's like to work at PFSAP.
Mahmood, what's your job like at PFSAP?
I've been with PFSAP for 16 years and joined right after finishing my training course at the Precision Engineering Institute, the former Institute of Technical Education ( ITE ). I first started out as an Assembly Technician and have worked my way up to my current position as a Skills Training Officer.
I have really enjoyed developing my career with Panasonic so far and in my current job role, I conduct both soft and technical skills training for new PFSAP technicians and also organise technical handling tests for them. The technical handling test is important as it enables the new staff to be confident in operating the equipment and be proficient in their jobs. Being a trainer is also very fulfilling as PFSAP has given me lots of opportunities to train and upgrade my knowledge and skills constantly throughout the years.
On the whole, I can describe my job as being both challenging and enjoyable as well.
Any career highlights so far?
Yes, definitely. One particular achievement that I take pride in is our annual skills competition for PFSAP technical staff, which I organised. The skills competition is designed to showcase the best staff who are proficient in their jobs, and the best performers from PFSAP will also go on to compete with other Panasonic group subsidiaries overseas.
I believe that the skills competition is very useful as it helps us to gauge our skills level, benchmark our quality standards and also improve our product knowledge and work efficiency.
Another career highlight that I'd like to share is my travels around the world through the course of my work at PFSAP. I've had the opportunity to visit countries such as The Philippines, Turkey, England, and of course, Japan, where our Panasonic headquarters is located.
What's it like being a part of the Panasonic family?
There is a great work life balance here and the company really takes care of our welfare as well. In fact, transport is provided island wide to bring us from home to work everyday, and even on Saturdays if we work overtime.
Furthermore, I regularly play in our PFSAP football team, and I'm glad to share that our team is also consistently among the Top 3 teams in our Inter- Panasonic football tournament as well! Playing sports with colleagues is a good way to keep fit, have fun and also enjoy bonding outside of our usual work environment.
What are your goals for the future?
I'm really enjoying my new job role and would like to further develop our Quality Assurance standards and processes in the department and grow its scope to cover other Panasonic departments as well.
