The success rate of getting the desired job employment through websites is a major consideration factor for those who chose to use job websites. The survey revealed that jobseekers often use more than one job portal for their search. Of those surveyed, 36% managed to secure a job successfully through a job website in the past 12 months. Respondents cited jobsDB.com as the most popular site in Singapore, with the majority (58%) said that they had used jobsDB.com to net their desired job. With the prevalence of search engines such as Yahoo! and Google, most job portals have evolved into search engines too. When it comes to the search methods deployed, keywords and job functions are clearly the two components that are used in job searches. In addition, net-savvy jobseekers also cited search accuracy (97%), search speed (87%) and the number of job returns in the job search (86%) as the top three important attributes that a job site should offer. Many also would like to see details on salary offered by the employer. This online requirement and behaviour is also reflected in similar surveys conducted in other countries in Asia. The survey, conducted in June 2011 with respondents from ages between 21 and 40, found most (49%) in the bracket age of 21 to 30, a net-savvy generation. For them, using job portal to build their career is a natural progression. Traditional methods of browsing through daily classified ads are slowly fading away, as instantaneous method of fast registration, simple uploading of resumes (jobsDB.com allows up to 10 resumes per user), and quick apply of the desired job makes job portals the preferred channels for more and more jobseekers. |
